Dutton Plastics Engineering was founded in 1957 as a company producing dies for metal pressings. Over the years that followed DPE grew from strength to strength and in 1987 we became part of the Zimco Group of Companies, who are South Africa’s leading producer of Industrial and Base minerals, a major producer and supplier of Zinc, Lead, Aluminium Metal and Alloys, related chemicals and engineering plastics. Zimco was purchased by Eco-Bat Technologies in 1999, a parent company with operations in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Austria and the USA.

Dutton Plastics Engineering operates from a 3 hectare site in Johannesburg, South Africa with 12 000m2 of factory space. We have branches in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth and agents operating in East London, Bloemfontein and Namibia.

Equipment includes machines for injection moulding, blow moulding and compression moulding. Machines ranging from 20 tons to 800 tons have placed DPE in the ranks of the larger reputed plastic converters of its type. Since our conception, DPE have changed very little in the way we do things, but perfected our processes. Our involvement with Zimco and Eco-Bat means that we have the backing of a major global player. The company has truly evolved from being a family business in its early days, to an integral part of a very large multi-national company.

The Quality Control Department is responsible for the inspection of incoming goods, in process testing and for finished goods inspection. This is done to ensure the maintenance of quality standards throughout the manufacturing process. DPE products and services are identified and monitored to ensure that they conform to specifications and customer requirements. DPE is registered as a company whose Quality Management system complies with the requirements of ISO 9001: 2000 Certified and has been listed since 1990. DPE also has several plumbing products that comply with the requirements of the SABS Mark Scheme, some of which have been registered since as early as 1987.

These include:
  • SANS 752 for Float Valves
  • SANS 1509 for Flushing Devices
  • SANS 821 for WC Flushing Cistern

We source our raw materials from internationally reputable suppliers. All component suppliers must conform to at least ISO standards of quality. Compliance with the international "SA 8000-Social Accountability" standards and all other Health, Safety Labour, and Environmental Standards are also important.
